Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Preliminary Patch Notes Released Ahead of Early Access

With early access just days away, Square Enix has released the preliminary version 7.0 patch notes for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, offering players a glimpse of the extensive updates on the horizon. The notes detail where players can start quests for the new Viper and Pictomancer classes and outline numerous changes to the MMO's systems.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, the fifth expansion of Square Enix's critically acclaimed MMORPG, marks the start of a new saga following Endwalker and features the game's first major graphical update since its relaunch as A Realm Reborn. In Dawntrail, the Warrior of Light and their allies travel to the western continent of Tural, where a rite of succession will determine the next ruler. The Warrior of Light joins forces with the youthful Hrothgar, Wuk Lamat, one of the four candidates vying to become Tural's Dawnservant. Square Enix has requested players to be mindful of story spoilers on social media ahead of the expansion.

While Square Enix remains secretive about Dawntrail's main story quests, they have teased plenty of new content. According to the preliminary patch notes, future updates will include the Arcadion raid series and the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure dungeon. A new level one quest for a free Fantasia potion will be available in 7.0, triggered by speaking to the Medicine Merchant in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X:13.4, Y:9.2). The locations of Dawntrail's role quests were also revealed, requiring progress to an unspecified point in the main story quests. Players can start the Viper and Pictomancer Job quests by visiting a Worried Weaver in Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X:9.3, Y:9.2) and a Cheerless Hearer in Old Gridania (X:8.0, Y:10.3), respectively.

The patch notes also outline measures to address server congestion ahead of Dawntrail's early access launch, including temporary restrictions on data center travel for two to four weeks. Additionally, new craftable items such as housing exteriors and furnishings will be available. As part of Final Fantasy 14's graphical update, Patch 7.0 will introduce support for AMD's FSR and Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technologies and the ability to cap the in-game frame rate.
